Candyland Challenge - Spring 2006

Coach Tara must have needed some serious study breaks to come up with this spring challenge!

After dividing all of us up into four teams of 6-7 swimmers, we chose names and captains. The goal was to swim our way through Candyland with each square equaling one mile (1800 yd equiv). The captains reported mileage swum once a week and markers were moved. If you landed on a "licorice space," there was a challenge swim or task, like building a raft out of anything found in the equipment room or diving for pennies. Likewise, there was a challenge for being bumped from behind by another team.
While very labor intensive for coach and captains, this was a great activity for bringing together Chinooks from the different lanes to get to know each other. Kudos to Tara for dreaming this one up!

Here is the marked up board. The course is 140 miles long. Note that the licorice space at 115 miles is 5 miles long and that the jump to the last space is also 5 miles long.

Madagascar Penguins finished first with their amazing attendance. (Back) Charlie Gerke, John Sweeney, Kevin Brackney; (Front) Keely Yenglin, Sherry Nelson, Glen Murray and Conor Richards.

Bbbbadgers finished in second place. Debbie Bell, Candace Chenoweth, Kristin Richards, Tom Lamar and Joan Alexander.

Social Butterfly came in third ahead of Avion Flew. Suzanne Planck, Steve McGeehan, Dick Zimmer and Paige Buehler.

Social Butterfly has to paddle the raft across the shallow pool through the gauntlet in order to get off the 5 mile licorice space.

Here's Coach Tara. While she looks like she's in her lab, she's actually standing in front of attendance and mileage graphs of the Candyland Challenge.
